Donald Duck...

They act more like the nephews of Donald than the Three Musketeers. But they have grown up together in the Campo dei Fiori, families intertwined and family business' all in a compact little square. The youngest, Fabrizio never had to baby-sit for the others but now that he has his own he's learning. Much like old established couples world-wide they bicker, squabble and look out for each other. They have been here a long time, seen change, realize that life demands it, but continue to pursue the traditional family business goals. They are all transitioning into the prominent partner and naturally want to pass it to the next generation.

They can't charge a photo fee...5 euro per picture so they smile and continue to work. Set up every morning, knock down every night. Each has a truck. Each has different needs from their truck, but Chiquita banana boxes still rule. To transport his booth Sandro figures around 35 boxes plus bags, ombrelli, etc. Fabri, figures around 50 and he drives a lot further. If he mis-figures he has a real problem, because even chiquita won't hold up at 80 km/hour! Sonia's"truck" is an old flatbed "Ape" that most likely doesn't ever hit more than 8 km/hour. It doesn't travel far, but it makes several round trips to her warehouse each morning and each afternoon. Sonia, actually Babla, loads and unloads in her space so each of them uses their space and their vehicles in a different manner.

My friends continue to live a traditional lifestyle but also seem to have adapted quite well to the modern world. New phones, new tablets, new...their Moms' hate all of it! Funny how some things are so universal!

Their dreams are pretty much the same as ours. A place to call home, family, friends and security...they just happen to live here! My dream is their reality. Once again I have been able to come and recharge myself...thanks to  them.

Mille grazie a tutti.....
