About five hours of sleep, they will suffice. Sleep can wait until this is over. There are still people to share time with and things to occupy that time. Good things!
Rome is a love affair I will not outlast. To be here for any period is superlative, but three months? Being smothered with care, affection, love is beyond dreams. I have written and re-written these words so many times for nearly twelve years and they are still the truth. Each visit an apex, only to be surpassed by the next.
Two of my friends I envy beyond description. They are archaeologists here in Rome. Their own heaven. It would be like I was a mouse in a cheese factory!
Last night, we dined together in a less frequented and quieter section of town near the train station...we could park. Not the center so it wasn't so mobbed. The food was a treat and the company superb. Then the evening was climaxed with a walk through the streets of Rome under lights. The Capitolitum, the Forum, the Colosseo, dark deserted streets with churches, convents, cloisters and others predating all the above...and a guide I didn't want to leave, how can you beat that?
My spirits had ebbed a bit by late afternoon. Last evening more than revived them. Today will likely follow the same roller coaster path as I say my goodbyes and get ready for tomorrow. The day is just starting, my last, there are still people out there, so let's start and see where it leads. Perhaps another midnight ramble...I hope!
And then, to sleep; perchance to dream........
