Music, music, music!

It pervades the air, along with the smell of espresso. Music is part of every waking moment in Rome. When you return to your daily grind the sound of an accordion, ukulele or even a stray sax can return you to some point of time where you were smiling. I will grant that accordions are an "acquired" taste and paying to hear them played poorly can be overwhelming. Some of the performers are quite good, the sax player, the mandolin player and others are adept, while the majority tyros. But it's music and dirt cheap at that. A few coins in a cup and you are part of the culture.

Ole sol a mio! Stairway to Heaven, I've heard them both played while having a glass of wine and chatting. Have to say that listening to Taras playing his electric guitar in the early evening Campo dusk the first time was a spell-binder. Time, setting and a wall of sound!

Bootleg CD's, Gypsy bass players, kids running the vendors totally oblivious, it's a time-place setting running through my head. I'll be hearing the Tarantella all day now!
