What happens at Lazy J, stays...on Facebook

Last week I found (by luck) an awards show on PBS. The annual George Gershwin award was being presented to this year's honoree, Carole King. Held at the White House with a great cast of performers singing her songs and relating how Ms. King had affected them, it was a nice show. The performers ended their part of the show, the President spoke, made the presentation and Carole King came to the podium. After a brief speech of thanks and acceptance she took her place at the piano and rocked the joint. Her finale was a duet with James Taylor, "You've got a friend." A show stopper and an apt segue.

This is what it brought to my mind, you can not plan this, however, should you be so fortunate, you may be the "right person at the right place." I was on the other side. It was me that had gone through a sad and lonely point in my life. You feel burdened, yet you can't share it and worse, you begin to accept it. Your life is stale. Then friends invite you to dinner and there is a new face. Before the evening is complete you are once again beginning to inhale, to breath deeply...to hope. Except to be herself, she did nothing remarkable. Most likely she was totally unaware of my reaction. After all she didn't know me. She was, simply the right person at the right place and time. I was lucky, she performed a mitzvah (a good thing) by chance.

Now I sit and watch it happening to another kindred soul and think, what a wonderful world!
