Luck

Most of my life I lived in the greater Boston area. Sports were a passion and a pleasure. They are still a part of my daily ablutions. Nothing happens before the sports pages and a coffee. I have seen "true" stars perform, but not always for good teams. The city now has three championship caliber teams and the fourth on a path to revitalization...what other city can make that claim?

Why Boston? Because each of the teams seems to grasp the concepts required. The obvious, good players...bums don't win! But, even the good players need good leadership, a good gameplan, a sense of direction and continuity. From ownership to the grounds crew everyone must play together well. No "mac" against the world heroics will ever survive and win in sports. The proof of that can be read in the daily sports pages anywhere in the world. Yes, the players must be good, but, the decision makers need be better. And, it helps to have Tom Brady.

Maybe having an owner willing to dedicate himself and the required assets to creating this type of environment is the hardest role to fill. One that can leave his ego outside the park and hire accordingly...hello Bob Kraft.

Hello Bill Belichick!

If I can see this, how hard is it to see?

Today

A day to sit, relax, pat the cat and write a bit. This is meant to be that kind of day...so,here goes. Never, once, did I expect to have had the good fortune that I have. Love, marriage, kids, travel and still trying to learn and experience more. Most of the time I feel like a lower case rolling stone, gathering no moss, but still rolling. Very soon I will be back in the place I love the dearest and once again, ironically enough, visiting more churches that I haven't gotten to yet. However difficult, however sad, each visit exceeds the previous one. This time, when I return, it will be  to new expectations. More travel, more places, more new experiences and more new friends. Just Spot, my camera and me on an open-ended trek to nowhere. No time limits, no grand plan,no itinerary, just hopes and dreams.

...life's been good...now as Nicole Curtis would say, "I just want brick!"...I think she means she wants more. So do I.

Thanksgiving, an explanation

Many of you are reading this from a different place, Rome, perhaps Holland or even Switzerland. Therefore you most likely have no clue what Thanksgiving is. With a few twists here is my take on it.

This is a day that traditionally gives honor to the events early in our nations history when the Indians and white settlers joined as families to be thankful for the crops, food and friendship that existed between them. In essence to thank the Indians for help keeping them alive. Turkey was abundant then in the wild and still is the main food of choice for this holiday.

In the current time, the family still gathers to enjoy food, drink and company. There are a few changes, not too many Indians join in this holiday. TV, football and large sofas have replaced benches and outdoor tables. Not a day for dieters.
...or turkeys! Me? I'm about to defrost a big steak, then the sofa, etc.

Carpe diem, y'all!

It just is

This morning I turned off the air conditioning. For full time residents of Florida that means the layered affect goes into force...at least three to start. Snow-birds are still in shorts and tees. I fall in the middle, a new long sleeve pull-over. "Pre-linted"...don't know how, but it is. Right out of the drawer, never worn and it comes with white fur! Unexplainable, it just is!

Score one for the dry cleaner!
