I'm up , it's sometime late or is it early? It's insomnia regardless. I turn on the TV and there is an old black and white screen with Julia Child. She is being interviewed by some BBC type and he asks her, "Miss Child, one of the audience members wants to know if you have ever made "Apocalypse Soup"? Julia turns her head slightly, smiles and says there must be a Russian in the audience. "Well yes I've know of it, but have not ever made it. The recipe is a fairly simple twist to the basic Borscht one. You just cook it a bit longer to render it to a much dryer consistency. Being careful not to scorch the ingredients...burnt beets is an aroma not quickly forgotten. Remove from the heat and chill in refrigerator for several hours. Take out just prior to serving and add one half gallon of vodka...like many a good Russian you are now ready for the apocalypse.
In some restaurants it is served under the name of "Lavender Dreams Soup", but it more expensive."
...See, I really do need a better pillow. Or, maybe some truly wonderful drugs!
Just another dream.
