Vizcaya

This is the estate of James Deering, one of the principals in International Harvester. He and his three designers took this from idea to fact in two years. Derek Jeter and his palace a bit longer. However the prices may be comparable as Vizcaya came in around 12 mil! Not chump change one hundred years ago!

I signed up for the walking tour and was the only one. Nice!
Learned a lot and enjoyed the tour. Now, here are the pix...no inside photography allowed. The book is available, around $30.

OK little brother, where was this taken?

The guests were ferried to the barge (above) and the transferred to gondolas for the final few yards to shore.

Deering and his lead designer battled over the main motif of the estate. The Seahorse was Deerings choice and there are everywhere. The designer's choice, Spanish Caraval, are very well represented as well...although mostly inside.

The interior finishes, artwork, etc and much of the sculptures came from Europe. Shipped via boat and delivered by Deerings own equipment.
