Piove

It's Sunday and there is none...sun, that is.The sun is officially up. But, with the clouds, rain and lightening there is nothing pushing me to move. A doppo! Posso! The weather forecast is 100 % chance of rain. I wonder how the things I hung out to dry are doing? Well rinsed anyway. Basta!

Let's skip back one...it's 8:30 and I am headed to the Campo for breakfast, hoping Antonio is there today. I am already tired of this work thing. There is a children's playground off to the right with a few early risers working off their exuberance. In front of me three ATAC workers are engrossed in some important conversation...9 to 1 Calcio! The S. Cosimato market is just opening and two women approach. Likely they are Mother and daughter. The younger one's face slides into an almost Mona Lisa smile as they approach the men. She Knows they will look at her! Beside her, the Mother walks on, knowing that she too will draw their admiration. Confidence! It begat beauty. There are possibly unattractive women here, but if they refuse to admit the possibility, who am I to argue?

Bella Roma!

Isola Tiberina

While I did my little walk a group of American college kids were being "instructed" on the isola by a somewhat pedantic professor. Boredom was written in bold caps all over those poor shivering kids.

Here are a few of today's lesson plan pix

Gertrude Stein

Everyone has heard the famous quotation, "there is no there, there!" Gertrude Stein said it and it was about her hometown...Oakland. Most assuredly NOT Rome.

Today is New Years Day here as everywhere in the world. Like back in the states last night was celebrated with food, drink, noise and silliness. Today, however, people are out and about walking, talking and enjoying the place I rant about. N one is sitting in front of a screen watching teen aged student athletes ran after each other.

I was out walking too. Until the battery needed recharging anyway. Both batteries actually, the camera's and mine. Some of the shots are up, some to follow. But, the focus of this is just how easy it is to walk the exact same streets and yet still encounter new views. Sure light changes as the day proceeds, but just slowly meandering the streets and alleys allows you to see what has been there all along. With still nearly two weeks and one more holiday I think the camera will continue to be tested. It's about time to start taking people shots. The faces will be pretty much the same but, there will be more layering of clothing as the winter continues. No snow and none forecasted...nice! I did NOT pack a shovel.

Hope everyone had wonderful holidays and I kind of look forward to resuming the packing in a couple of weeks. Because everyone reading this knows that I do not really " "want" to come back, we'll just end there.

Ciao, a doppo!
